IT ONLY TAKES 3 SIMPLE STEPS

To Maintain Your New Student-Centered Classroom Culture
by designing and delivering interactive science lessons
using free technology-Based activities
that Facilitate Active Learning Through inquiry and practice

Step 1:
DEFINE THE
OUTCOME OF THE LESSON
  • Deconstruct your content area standards to identify core ideas and practices that will be included in your lessons.
  • Use the deconstructed standards to list Learning Intentions to guide your lesson design.
  • Define Success Criteria that students can use to measure their own progress before, during, and after instruction.
Step 2:
DESIGN TECHNOLOGY-BASED
LEARNING EXPERIENCES
  • Create Task Instructions and Artifact Outlines that lean on free, accessible technology tools.
  • Incorporate Data-Dependent Analysis & Skill Practice so that the core ideas of the content and cross-cutting concepts of science will be revealed to every student through the Learning Experience you've designed.
  • Ensure Disciplinary Literacy is integrated throughout the lesson.
Step 3:
DETERMINE HOW TO ACTIVATE & INTEGRATE PRIOR KNOWLEDGE
  • Identify which prior knowledge or experiences are required or helpful prior to participating in the lesson.
  • Develop a warm-up activity that calls upon this knowledge and also promotes skills related to growth mindset, inference, and hypothesis.
  • Use the outcome of this initial experience to assess student preparedness and nurture a sense of community among students in the class.
